BACKGROUND NOTE



The Weeping Water Garden Club was organized in 1938 with the purpose “To create interest and make people more conscious of the great amount of natural beauty in the City of Weeping Water and the immediate surroundings.” Besides the bi-monthly meetings, club activities included an annual flower show, trips to towns of other garden clubs to inspect their work, and a monthly tour of gardens during the growing season.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



This collection of the records of the Weeping Water Garden Club consists of five volumes and one folder of manuscript material arranged in two series: (1) Minute Books, 1938-1961; and (2) Miscellany, 1958-1962. The bulk of this collection consists of minute books which contain membership rosters, some financial information, newspaper clippings, as well as club minutes. The materials in series 2 comprise a small group of papers, most of which are letters and programs. There is also a small notebook containing financial notes.



Note:  The collection has been microfilmed for preservation purposes. Researchers are asked to use the microfilm.
