SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The Swede Plain Methodist Church was a rural church near Polk, Nebraska. It merged with the First Methodist Church in the village of Polk in 1935. However, entries were continued in the Swede Plain record book.
The collection is arranged in two series: 1) History of the church; and 2) Records, 1876-1955. The history was prepared by Mrs. Jennie Lind Phillips in 1929 and 1930. The records include a list of pastors, 1876-1954; record of baptisms, 1895-1955; membership roll, 1929-1930; record of members, 1879-1954; and a record of marriages, 1912-1953.
This collection was loaned to the Nebraska State Historical Society for microfilming by Rev. W.C. Birmingham of Polk, Nebraska, on January 30, 1956, as a part of the Norden Club project on the history of Scandinavians in Nebraska.
