BACKGROUND NOTE



The Stuart House, a hotel in Stuart, Nebraska, was run by Mrs. Sarah S. Bigelow during the 1880s and 1890s. The date of its founding is not certain. According to Andreas’ History of Nebraska (1882), there was a hotel in Stuart, but no name is given.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



This collection of the records of the Stuart House in Stuart, Nebraska, consists of six volumes on two reels of microfilm. These volumes date from 1885-1897 and contain the signatures of individuals who stayed at the Stuart House. Also included are many advertisements for both local and national businesses, which are printed around the edges of the regular pages or on the blotters bound with the registers. Note: This collection is on microfilm only. The original volumes are not held by the Nebraska State Historical Society.
