SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



The Samuel Roe Grice collection consists of one reel of microfilm containing manuscript materials arranged in four series: 1) Correspondence; 2) Diary and family records; 3) Manuscripts; and 4) Miscellaneous material. The approximately one hundred letters of Series 1 span the years 1840 to 1922. However, the bulk of this correspondence dates from 1846-1864 and consists largely of family letters sent to and from both London, England, and Brownville, Nebraska. Series 2 contains the diary and records of Samuel Roe Grice, 1817-1862 and the genealogy of the Grice and Roe families, 1580-1851. Also included in the three volumes which form this series are essays and verse of Mr. Grice. The manuscript file of Series 3 contains 33 typed pages on Samuel Roe Grice by Ann Shippen Graham. Included in this series are typewritten copies of numerous Grice letters and diary entries. The miscellaneous material of Series 4 includes a small portrait, clippings and memorabilia.
