BACKGROUND NOTE



Richard Dibble enlisted in Company H First Regiment, Wisconsin Heavy Artillery on September 29, 1864. He was stationed at Fort Lyon Virginia until his discharge in April 26, 1865. The Dibble family moved to Gage County, Nebraska in 1866. A complete sketch of Dibble may be found on page 504 of the Portrait and Biographical Album of Gage County, 1888. SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



This collection consists of four folders of manuscript material arranged in two series: 1) Correspondence, 1864-1905 and 2) Certificates, 1858-1886. The bulk of this collection relates to camp life at Fort Lyon, as experienced by Richard Dibble, 1864-1865. The correspondence (1866-1905) comprises only 10 pieces of family correspondence mostly from Mr. Dibble’s parents.
