BACKGROUND NOTE



The Old Reliable Abstract Company was incorporated at Lincoln, Nebraska, and the articles of incorporation were filed in the office of the Lancaster County Clerk on August 31, 1887. Officers were Dr. Edward P. Childe, a Lincoln pharmacist, president; Constant S. Trevitt, abstractor and accountant, vice-president; and Miss Berthe K. Childe, secretary-treasurer. The company, with $20,000.00 of capital stock, was originally incorporated for twenty years, and there is no record in the office of the county clerk that this period was extended.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



This collection consists of one ledger of recorded filings of title abstracts. This material relates to land sales mainly in towns around Lincoln, in Lancaster County, dating between 1880-1890. In particular it records dealings have to do with: Raymond, Roca, Firth, Bennet, Waverly, Jamaica, Cheney, Sprague, Panama, and Havelock, as well as Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Wyuka Cemetery, and Rose Hill Cemetery.
