BACKGROUND NOTE



The Nebraska Territorial Pioneers Association was organized in Lincoln, Nebraska, on May 26, 1892, upon the occasion of the celebration of the Silver Anniversary of the State of Nebraska.  Membership was at first limited to those who became residents of Nebraska prior to its admission as a state.  Later the constitution was amended to admit anyone who was a lineal descendant of territorial pioneers.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



This collection contains records and miscellaneous materials relating to the Association.  It is arranged in five series:  1) Correspondence, 1894-1918; 2) Membership; 3) Annual Meeting Materials; 4) Administrative Records; and 5) Miscellany.  The bulk of the collection consists of the correspondence of the Secretary of the Association, mostly concerning membership and application for membership.  The Annual Meeting report of 1903 contains a variety of reminiscences about pioneer times and early leaders.
