RG3957.AM:  National Urban League (Omaha and Lincoln, Neb.)

Records:  1925-1961

Omaha, Douglas County and Lincoln, Lancaster County, Neb.:

Size:  3 reels of microfilm

BACKGROUND NOTE

The Omaha Urban League (now known as the Urban League of Nebraska) was established in 1927. The Lincoln Urban League was founded in 1932. The general purpose of the Urban League is to seek improved economic, social, and cultural conditions for African Americans living in urban areas, working in conjunction with local, state, and federal agencies. Membership in the League is inter-racial.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

This collection consists of records and publications of the Lincoln and Omaha Urban Leagues which comprise a portion of the records of the National Urban League Collection at the Library of Congress. The records contained on these three reels of microfilm relate to the activities of the Lincoln Urban League, ca. 1932-1954; and the Omaha Urban League, ca. 1925-1961. Most of the materials consist of printed matter such as reports, programs, newsletters, and special events files. The arrangement of the records on the film is that of the Library of Congress.

Dr. Dennis Mihelich, Dept. of History, Creighton University, purchased copies of the microfilm from the Library of Congress with a research stipend from the Creighton Graduate School. Through the courtesy of Dr. Mihelich and the Alumni Library at Creighton University, the Nebraska State Historical Society acquired a duplicate copy of the microfilm in May of 1979.

Note:  This microfilm cannot be inter-library loaned.
