BACKGROUND NOTE



Little is known about the author of these letters.  Mrs. A. Morgan was a teacher in England before coming to Nebraska City, Nebraska.  Her first and maiden names are not known at this time.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



The collection consists of two letters written by Mrs. A. Morgan from Nebraska City, Nebraska.  Sent to Elizabeth Miles, a friend and former student, in England, the letters date from 1861 and 1863.  In the first letter, October 24, 1861, Mrs. Morgan discusses local news and the prices of various commodities, and feelings about the Civil War.  In the second letter, February 19, 1863, Mrs. Morgan continues to convey news about the Civil War, local economics, agriculture, etc.
