The collection contains three parts: two manuscripts titled “Buffalo Bone Days” by M.I. McCreight, DuBois, Pennsylvania; twenty-five photocopies of photographs relating to McCreight’s life and his Indian artifact collection; and biographical information about McCreight (1865-1965) and information about the McCreight Indian artifact collection up to 1986. The manuscripts describe the bison bone collecting business during the late 1800s in Kansas, Nebraska, and Dakota Territory. McCreight was a book keeper in Devil’s Lake, Dakota Territory, for the bone collecting business. The photocopies of photographs include pictures of McCreight and some of his children, as well as images of Buffalo Bill Cody and Monroe McCanles. The biographical information includes “Buffalo Bill…as I know him” by McCreight and McCreight’s obituary (Oct. 13, 1958) from the DuBois Courier-Express. Various other information about McCreight and his Indian artifact collection is also included.
