BACKGROUND NOTE



Born in Missouri in 1860, Mary Jane Warner came with her parents to Dodge County, Nebraska, in 1866. She married Frank Watson and had four children, William, Walter, Ethel and Verne. Prior to 1900 they moved to Oregon. Mary J. Watson died in 1958 and is buried at Brownsville, Oregon.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



The collection consists of one item, the daily diary of Mary J. Watson of Maple Creek, Dodge County, Nebraska. The entries date from April 1, 1884 to March 31, 1885. She writes one-line entries relating to the weather and her daily activities. The diary is entitled, “Mary J. Watson and what she did every day in a year.”
