Account book:  1889-1894

Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska, and Massachusetts:  Draftsman; architect

Size:  One volume

Born in Watertown, Massachusetts in 1871, Leslie E. Sparrow spent his entire professional career as a draftsman and architect.  He lived in Massachusetts for the bulk of his life, but he did spend time in Omaha, Nebraska, in the late 1880s to early 1890s, and in Galveston, Texas, in the early 1900s.  Leslie E. Sparrow died on September 27, 1951, and is buried in Mount Auburn Cemetery at Cambridge, Massachusetts.

This collection consists of one volume, a cash book kept by Leslie E. Sparrow in account with Walker and Best, Architects, 808 New York Life building, Omaha, Nebraska.  Entries in the volume date from 1889 to 1894, and record cash received and cash spent by Sparrow.  The timeframe appears to cover his association with Walker and Best, and the firm’s successors, Walker, Kimball and Best, and finally, Walker and Kimball.  Typical entries for expenses include telegrams, postage, envelopes, “express on drawings” from Boston, carfare, and even “lunch for Mr. Kimball” (Thomas R. Kimball).

Note:  For more information about the architectural firms of Walker and Best; Walker, Kimball and Best; and Walker and Kimball, see the entries on Place Makers of Nebraska: The Architects.
