BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE



Joseph J. Imhoff was born in 1835 in Somerset County, Kentucky. In 1873 he bought the Commercial Hotel (formerly the Douglas House, then the Capital Hotel) in Lincoln, Nebraska. Besides owning and operating the Commercial Hotel, Imhoff was also one of the organizers of the Union Savings Bank of Lincoln; vice-president of the Nebraska Stockyards and of the State National Bank of Lincoln; and president of the Lincoln Street Railway Company and of the Lincoln Electric Light Company. Imhoff died in Pennsylvania on November 8, 1908.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



This collection is arranged in two series: 1) Ledgers; and 2) Miscellaneous.



The Joseph J. Imhoff collection relates primarily to the period when he owned and operated the Commercial Hotel in Lincoln, Nebraska. Also included are newspaper clippings relating to the deaths of his wife and two sons.
