BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE



John B. Williams was born in Scotland in 1862. He came to the United States at the age of 19 and lived in Chicago, Illinois for a time. After graduating from Drake University, Rev. Williams served his first pastorate at Whiting, Iowa. He served many pastorates throughout Kansas and Nebraska, including Junction City, Mayview, and Plainville in Kansas, and Guide Rock, Chadron, Unadilla, Lincoln and Greenwood in Nebraska. Rev. Williams died in Decatur, Illinois on December 3, 1950. He was survived by his daughter, Mrs. Lois Klitzing of Decatur, Illinois; his son James of Lincoln, Nebraska; and his son Blair of North Platte, Nebraska. Rev. Williams was buried at the Greenwood, Nebraska cemetery.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



The collection consists of two volumes owned by Rev. John B. Williams, an itinerant preacher. The first volume is a record of his sermons showing the date, town, subject of sermon, number in attendance, and the weather. Several pages at the back of the volume list weddings, baptisms and funerals performed. The volume dates from 1907-1947. The second volume is more of a personal journal kept by Rev. Williams. It lists various daily activities and dates from 1915-1946. Some of the towns in Kansas where he preached included Junction City, Norton, Alida, McPherson, Mayview, and Plainville. Towns in Nebraska where he preached included Guide Rock, Inavale, Chadron, Dakota Junction, Blair, Dorchester, Riverdale, Unadilla, Lincoln, Greenwood, and various others.
