SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



This collection [formerly MS2735] consists of the correspondence of Frederick G. Holmes from 1871 to 1874. The majority of the letters date from 1871 to 1872. The material in this collection relates to Holmes’ activities as agent at the Yankton Agency, Dakota Territory in 1871-1872. Holmes settled with his family near Nemaha City in 1858 and combined farming with a medical practice.

Holmes acting as an agent for the Yankton Sioux. A short dictionary of English and Sioux words is also included. RG3016.AM consists of one reel of microfilm.
