BACKGROUND NOTE



Born in the Czech Kingdom (the precursor to Czechoslovakia), Frank J. Sadilek was the son of Jan and Babora Sadilek.  He immigrated to the United States when he was sixteen.  He eventually settled at Wilber, Nebraska, where he operated a harness shop until 1882.  He served in the Nebraska House of Representatives from 1883 to 1885.



After leaving the legislature, Sadilek continued serving in public office at the local level.  He was the Saline County deputy treasurer, and from 1897 until 1919 he worked as the Saline County register of deeds.   Frank J. Sadilek married Terezie Jurka in 1876.  The couple had eight children, including their daughter, Olga (Sadilek) Stastny, who was the first female Czech physician in Nebraska.  Frank J. Sadilek died on March 24, 1933 and is buried next to his wife in the Wilber Czech Cemetery at Wilber, Nebraska.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



The collection consists of one item, an autograph book dating from 1883 during Sadilek’s time in the Nebraska Legislature.
