Ernest L. Barney, son of Chauncey and Alpha (Overton) Barney, was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on April 29, 1899. A life-long Lincoln resident, Barney was an employee of Hardy’s Furniture for fifty years. He died in Lincoln on February 14, 1990.
SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection consists of fifty items arranged in two series: 1) Barney Industries, 1949-1954 and undated; and 2) Baseball Materials, 1936-1938; 1953; and undated. This material relates to Ernest L. Barney’s gun and fishing rod saddle business, Barney Industries, and his involvement in Lincoln’s local baseball scene as manager of the Hardy’s Furniture team.
Series 1 consists of materials relating to Barney Industries, 1949-1954 and undated. Included are the patent Barney received for his gun saddle invention, advertisements, an order form, and bank account records.
The Baseball Materials, 1936-1938; 1953; and undated, of Series 2 includes rosters, schedules, contracts, correspondence, articles of association, a lease agreement, a contract, and a stock certificate.
