Born in 1887, Dona M. Stoker attended public school at York, Nebraska.  By 1910 she was working as a school teacher in York.  She married Mark Pierce around 1911 and the couple moved to Lincoln, Nebraska.  The couple had two children, daughter Ardeth and son Robert.  Dona Pierce served as President of the Lincoln PTA Council from 1938 to 1940 and as President of the State PTA Council from 1940-1943.  She was also a member of the board of managers of the National Congress of PTA Councils.  Both Mr. and Mrs. Pierce had been associated with the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra since its beginning in 1926.  In 1966 they helped compile a history of the Association which is available in the library collection [785.066 P61e].

Dona (Stoker) Pierce died on January 27, 1970.


This collection consists of four boxes of manuscript material arranged in three series:  (1) Nebraska PTA Council records, 1940-1943; (2) Lincoln Symphony guild records, 1945; and (3) Hospitality House Hostess Committee, 1945.  This collection relates to Dona Pierce’s activities in the Nebraska PTA Council, and in the Lincoln Symphony Guild, 1940-1945.
