BACKGROUND NOTE



Ferdinand and Anna Diehm emigrated from Germany in the early 1880s and settled in Johnson County, Nebraska.  The couple had five children, Anna, Paul, Gustave, Selma and Julia.  Selma taught school in several Nebraska communities, including Sterling, Bayard, Plattsmouth and Hastings.  Julia Diehm moved to Hastings in 1945 and lived with Selma the rest of her life.  Paul Diehm married Grace Pearl Fox in 1924.  Anna Diehm married Robert Hillman in 1908.



SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



This collection consists of one folder containing a handful of items relating to Selma Diehm and the Diehm family.  Included in the collection are a letter and certificate issued to Selma Diehm by the Nebraska Advisory Defense Committee upon her completion of Bomb Reconnaissance training in 1943.  Also included is an undated birthday postcard from Julia Diehm to Selma Diehm, a clipping about Robert and Julia (Diehm) Hillman, and two certificates issued to Grace Pearl (Fox) Diehm.
