SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE



The collection contains a handwritten account, with two typed anecdotes of some of C.H. Scoville’s experiences as a solicitor/sales person for the various atlases and maps he published during the 1880s through the early 1900s. He describes how maps were made; selling techniques; pricing and delivery; etc. Scoville ends the reminiscence by telling of an incident where he found a white woman being held as a slave in a Dakota town. Also included is a customer testimonial for the Washington County, Nebraska, atlas by the C.H. Scoville Company.



Note:  Some C.H. Scoville atlases are held in the Library collection. One of the atlases lists the publisher location as Blair, Nebraska.
